hahaha.. here's my main point of view. A huge part of hip hop is based on male bravado. Not only is the idea to get a message acrost, to explore the possibilities of word play, but also to one-up the man before you. So anybody who touches a mic needs to feel that they are the best at it, or they won't come off as such during a show. I on the other hand hardly speak about how good a rapper I am. I talk about life from my eyes, and shit like that. Can U hardly raps about how good a rapper he is. Rather he peppers his songs and tracks with little notes to let you ( the listener) know he means business and he knows he's good at it. Fice, Grynch.. etc. etc... so to all you rappers or mc's or posers who only rap about how you rap. Get a FUCKING LIFE. An MC track every now then is ok with me. BUT if all you can rap about is how you rap it means you ain't living, and need to be buried by a real MC. ALL YOU RAPPERS WHO RHYME ALL DAY AND DON'T SAY SHIT NEED TO CHOKE ON THE CAP OF MY BIC PEN...

I GOT 99 PROBLEMS, AND RAP AIN'T ONE..

    GET A LIFE

I'm THE BEST EVER, If you're mad at me for saying that then it means you know it, and you're mad I had to be the one to tell you. And if you don't feel the same about your own music you need to put the mic down right NOW!!!!

please make a song about this. you don't necessarily have to name names, but be that real mc who shits on the guys who

"get on the mic with the funky fresh style
spit my fire until the crowd goes wild
spit my fire until i burn a child
'cause i rap so cold my fucking teeth are frozen
while my man brings the beats 'til your tape deck's broken"

i dont even know who johns talking about but i know what he means about having to think you're the best. Truthfully i think i'm the best rapper out right now but if somebody else tells me it i don't believe it. its a weird dynamic. i think it's kinda like when you play basketball you need to think every shot that you're shooting is going in and then you can get into a rhythm. same thing here, u gotta think that you're really killing shit and eventually you really will start killing shit if you can stay humble enough to notice your flaws. I'm also not really threatened by it because i know every good emcee thinks like this pretty much.

this is my favorite terrible thread ever to grace this forum, and perfectly demonstrates what i dislike about 74% of this community.

crown's post is so contradictory it makes me spit! and i love all the "i'm a deep rapper and most of you are not (except you you you and all of you)" talk. that's hilarious!

who are you to judge what is a fair topic to rap about?
you rap about "life from your eyes?"
wow, that's probably just as original as every battle rapper ever.
i mean comeon.. what about the rappers that rap about "bitches" and "guns" and "fights" and just generally bein "gangsta?" ???
are they off the hook cause that's "life from their eyes?"

a very misguided post, to say the least.
i guess i see where you're going, but you headed there and then turned around, started walking the other way, sat down, took a shit, rolled in it a bit then fell through a blackhole.

    that's how i see it.

thanks though for this opportunity to make myself chuckle.

i get what he's saying, dont rap about being good at rapping, great but...he could have said that without all the ego boosting, that should be reserved for the mic (i think). you want people to think you're amazing/tough/whatthefuckever maybe show humility until its time to actually prove yourself. not that mr. crown needs to prove himself, dont get me wrong he's fuckin rad, guess if you're going to make a statement like that and point fingers (without naming names) like that people are going to expect you to well, name names.

ok ok.. maybe I'm not the most articulate person when I'm venting. Am I wrong for speaking my mind, even if I'm wrong, or contradict myself. I've just heard so much music about music, and maybe I'm bias because I write music. This whole thing started from a conversation. And I took it to the blog to see what other people thought.

what I'm trying to say is this.

If you're a good rapper the songs will speak for themselves. You don't need to write entire songs about that one subject. I look at music like a poet would. Somebody once told me the beauty in poetry or writing is that often somebody will say what you feel and just couldn't put into words. When I listen to music I want to relate with that artist. I've heard too many songs about rap. So FORGIVE me for speaking my mind. And I don't feel I'm contradicting myself. I'm an MC, and it's competitive, so that part of me comes out. As often as the part of me that wants to be insightful, If I wasn't the type to talk shit, and open my big mouth I'd just write poetry, every artist is confrontational.

    as for the ego

I see a lot of accusations of hypocrisy floating around this thread. But there's a key flaw in the foundation of the logic used to point it out. And that's that if you try and bring light to someones contradictions, and they are already aware of them, then you're pretty much wasting your breath. It doesn't make them right, or justify them in anyway, it just solidifies the moral limbo hypocrisy is in the 1st place. You may be the deepest most humble emcee out there...but if you don't have the testicular fortitude to do anything about it then you might as well not even do it in the first place. thus, making you a hypocrite from the get go. So Mr.Crown...i do concur...you are the best rapper....but yah still aint shit lol.

    john crown:

ok ok.. maybe I'm not the most articulate person when I'm venting.

uhh... then you must be a terrible rapper?
i mean, aren't most raps (or any musical expression for that matter, poetry included) a form of "venting?"
so you aren't articulate when you vent?
but you're still the best rapper?

you continue to contradict yourself, yet deny ever having once done such.

still quite the humorous thread, bravo!

i personally have no problem with you speaking your mind. never once did i ask you to stop "venting."
i'm all for your free expression on here, especially when i get to pick it apart. that's fun for me and you get to vent, ergo win win.

i also have a problem with this quote:

If I wasn't the type to talk shit, and open my big mouth I'd just write poetry, every artist is confrontational.

so poetry is by your definition non-confrontational?
and your rap is not a form of poetry?
seems to me you maybe took your learnings of poetry from a fourth grade english class and never developed it further in order to apply it to what you are trying to do with your career. that's a fatal mistake, as everything you are working on is rooted in poetry. and if you've never read a confrontational poem, you have a lot of catching up to do...
i mean, wow. what a hell of a revealing couple sentences i quoted there.

    indeed

did i ever come on here and say i am the savior of hip hop and that my shit owns all your faces?
    pretty sure not.

i write music for the band and play guitar. there are a few songs i occasionally rap on, but by no means do i consider myself a rapper. but this isn't about me or my band, so back the fuck up. i'm sorry i don't jock can-u like everyone else here. i personally find his music to be extremely mediocre, unoriginal, and uninspired.

i dont think people jock me on here, i think its more of a respect thing. like somebody telling me that was a good song, thats respect, its not jocking me. as far as you thinking i'm mediocre, i'm sure theres no bias for any reason on that. as far as this thread goes, I don't think its actually john shitting on everyone, its more him saying that if you dont think you're the best then put the mic down. which i agree with to a certain extent.

I think instead of deconstructing the statement and feeling threatened by it you should realize what he's saying and move on. you're not gonna get anywhere with your flawed logic.

    Can-U:

I think instead of deconstructing the statement and feeling threatened by it you should realize what he's saying and move on. you're not gonna get anywhere with your flawed logic.

first of all, my logic is hardly flawed. you yourself said i had outstanding logic in your earlier post.
second of all, i don't know where you got the idea that i felt threatened by his statements.
i don't think they were pointed in my direction by any means. i've never had any interaction with john in any negative connotations. i just thought what he was saying was ridiculous for all the reasons stated in my two relevant posts.
i would like to "realize what he's saying and move on" but i can't figure out what he's saying as he continues to contradict himself and he fails to see a connection between poetry and hip hop. that's pure ignorance and i came to the internet to debate shit like that. isn't that why we're all here?!

and sure, there may be a bit of bias in my opinions of your music. but wouldn't you say the same for your opinions of mine? i think probably so, therefore your point is completely null and void of any substance. (once again.)

as far as dawson is concerned, i could give a shit if you don't like my music. i didn't ask you to like it and i didn't even ask you to listen to it. i'm not making music to make it big, i have no false delusions of grandeur, i'm just tryin to have fun. and comeon, there's an assload of bands in Tacoma making WAY WORSE shit than we are. picking on us is a bit of a waste and a stretch. we have a pretty strong fanbase and we play our shows that we are offered. and that's how we like it. we've been playing for a bit over a year now and keep getting offered more and more bigger shows...somebody seems to like us...

further proof you do not thoroughly read the posts in this thread, as that comment was clearly directed at dawson and not you. even dragonfish understood that, demonstrating his much greater abilities at reading and comprehension.

funny thing is, you've been on the scene since the biznautics were playing, and you're still playing the same damn venues and places like good old hell's kitchen. how many years have you been stuck in this city convinced you're moving on now? we've been at this 1 year and have some pretty big shows already on our repertoire. if in 5-7 years we're still playing hell's kitchen monthly but acting like we're big, i'll give in.

    bottom line:
if you all want to talk about how shitty you think we are, please do so. but start a new thread as you are truly distracting from a good conversation here. crown didn't come here to talk shit about me, so this new direction you have gone is considered "trolling" at it's finest. i love how my opinions of can-u's music are biased but his opinions of mine aren't. that's such a perfect example of the hypocrisy you cyber-dolts possess.

Not to derail this any further but whats the matter with playing at local venues? I personally like the fact that local artists perform locally and don't feel like they have to play in another city to "make it"

Are you suggesting we should have more local artists filling up the T-dome by now?
