ok some great anonymous leads coming in. This news is pretty exciting feel free if you have any other details, either email/whisper them if you want.

    Heres some more info:
    The people/person behind it are:

    http://www.triplecrownkings.com/
    http://www.myspace.com/triplecrownkings

doing a little digging on the domain name its registered with a

"Ralph Williams" with a email lacedup@_____.com, that email then resolved on myspace to the email of the Account for "Laced up" the urban lifestyle store up in seattle.

    http://www.myspace.com/getlacedup

So there is some sort of connection between the two possibly same owner/investment group.

I'm even more excited now :) Thanks for the tips

I think the store will be fresh...but let me ask a quick question, how expensive is this stuff going to be? I mean a boutique hiphop shop is cool and all, but you got to push product to last and I just hope that we can help them push product.

here is a quote from another lead:

I spoke with David a few weeks ago and he said either the designers or the store was going to be working on affordability due to the economic climate. It sounded like there should be a mix of price ranges.

    Good news

So on another blog that I help run I posted about the new store coming downtown and here is a real gem some person commented...

    Thorax O'Tool on November 16th, 2008 5:24 pm

This “Urban Lifestyle” thing seems to be the popular buzzword in retail development. You also see it at the Tacoma Mall as well in that huge-ass expansion @ Southcenter.

I think it’s kinda funny how this “hip hop” trend is starting to grow here… ironic since it’s the same kind of gangster (although real gangsters and not rich wannabes) is what plagued hilltop in the 80s.

Interesting that this individual feels hiphop has plagued tacoma.

I really hope this store doesnt turn out to be a let down, based upon the merchandise they are going to carry it will be pricey and completely different than some wack store like Platinum Wear by the mall, this will be a place for sneaker heads and those all about exclusive street gear.
--As long as they don't bring along snobriety and terrible customer service, I will be in huge support, Tacoma needs this.

Everyone keeps sayn we need this...this is good for tacoma...waaa!!

Why do we need this? What void in hip hop community will this fill especially?

  8.

if its just clothing and is as expensive as adamjdesign's estimates, i dont see how it will contribute to the community rather than just make hip hop a product. what i'd like to see is a shop that has music/records, graf supplies, some sort of gallery, a spot to kick it and most of all a place that pays tribute to the roots of the culture and to the pioneers while supporting the local community and providing a platform for tacoma hip hop artists..
but then again, its a business its probly just gunna sell gear

the reason this is good imo is because if you have seen what laced up has done in seattle in the last year, they have held countless art/music parties, sponsored local shows, and created a place to kick it. They do sell expensive clothes too but I support these people Ive seen them do good for the scene

yeah, for those people who know what laced up is and have visited their shop and know about what they add to the northwest scene and think this will be bad for tacoma please explain yourself. for those who have never been there and don't know the breed of people who run it and what they're involved in, lets chill with the uninformed opinions.

I agree with Can-U, and Mike. Laced Up does much more than just sell gear, and Cassius is one of the coolest store owners in Seattle who helps out the scene a lot. He is one of the first, if not the first, to give Tacoma a chance when most of the Seattle stores don't even fuck with the south sound. Why not do it? There is an entire market down here that is untapped, and look at the surrounding areas. Olympia, Lakewood, Puyallup, Auburn, Federal Way, and all of Tacoma wont have to drive up to Seattle to buy some of that shit. I'm not saying that its not risky, because Tacoma isn't actually the shopping central of WA, but if it does well it could be the start of something good. I honestly don't even like the gear they sell in Laced Up, but I've been to plenty of their art shows, and they always keep up with the local shit. Downtown Tacoma needs more life added to it anyways. To that person who compared hip hop to the shit that was going on in the Tac in the 80s and 90s can eat a dick.

name one store in Tacoma like this? Since everybody just said zero, then we can obviously see that there is a market for it. It's okay to get excited about things guys, you don't always have to be the hero and tell us how it's gonna ruin shit.

  10.

this will def be a great look for tacoma. i was in anchorage last summer, which culturally is similiar to tacoma, but 100k bigger and two shops like this opened in june. there great spots to network and build. hopefully they will make enough money to get by. i dont know if laced up carries local albums, but the shops in anchorage do and people know them as the best place to get local hip-hop albums and mixtapes.

  11.

i wasnt knockin the store, it hasnt even come out yet. i was just bringin up the issue that it should do more than sell clothing. it sounds like laced up does that and all i hope is that this store does the same. sounds like it should be dope

  12.

    im super pumped.

how would bringing this store to tacoma just promote "hip hop as a product". that is a pretty ignorant thing to say.

i don't know any of the dudes personally from Laced Up, but ihave been in their store and have purchased things from the store as well. not to mention almost every show up there in seattle is help put on by laced up. not only would this be a killer retail store in tacoma, but like mike said it would soon turn into a location for art shows/galleries, in store performances, a place to promote, and most of all a place to meet new heads(no homo).

A Tacoma hip-hop clothing store must have Grind & Hustle in there, also. I'll fuck wit 10 Deep but I'm from here.. I want Tacoma related clothing.. not a pink shirt that says "I love the 80's"
