also, why you guys hatin on the viaduct?

let's see your all ages venue!

it's the only one in tacoma and whether the sound is fucking pristine or not, it should be given nothing but props for what these guys are trying to do for the music scene of this city.

they get props for having a venue but get criticized for not having great sound. i think its a legit criticism.

  1.

i'm not hatin on the vaiduct. i just don't prefer it. i do agree that an all ages venue is nothing but sweet for our city. but they won't get praised in my book for just having the venue.

when i played there, i didn't even meet any of the people who work there. and they treated my friends like they were 13 years old.

    the sound is kinda crappy.

and i dont understand where they get off charging nothing less than 7 bucks for a show. some of these shows they throw are like 10 bucks. i think the last time i payed 10 bucks for a show was at hells kitchen when the scholars and common market came and played. so for me to pay that to see some screaming emo band is just ridiculous. shit i mean the show that i played with you guys (nasty) was 7 bucks. thats a little steep in my opinion. maybe i am just hella cheap.

as long as im talking shit about the viaduct, i might as well throw some personal issues in there as well. i went to high school with one of those little fucks. not only was he a shit talking, tattle tale who drew big black x's on the top of his hands, but he was just a piece of shit in general. when i walked into the venue that night and heard his voice, i almost sharted. and when i found out he was a big part of the ownership, i nearly sharted again.

oh yeah, and when i asked for 4 waters, the dude behind the counter looked at me like i had a penis growing out of my face. like i would ask for water for free if i was just a fan at the show. idiot.

anyways, thats how i feel about the viaduct. i think it is a great thing in tacoma. but really, it could be managed way better.

    smell what im steppin in

There is a need for all ages venues in the city, but they have to be ran proper and have good sound. Brick City is a good example. We had some serious dope shows there, but the sound was horrible. It just bounced left and right off those walls.

I totally agree with Evergreen. There aren't too many shows out there that merit charging over $5 a head to get in. Especially if the sound is weak.

It takes a lot of work to put on all ages shows. A lot of work that doesn't bring in big time money either. Everyone knows that the money is brought in by the bar. But young bucks need venues too! Just get the right people starting them and keeping them open!

yeah i hadn't thought about the prices.
    you're absolutely right about that.

and i think i know the kid you're referring to, and agree that he's a tool.

7 bucks is definitely too much.
a place like the viaduct should be somewhere in the 3 dollar neighborhood.

you guys are making me change my mind and want to cancel my upcoming show there.

    tee-hee.

they've ripped the lil homies off on there shows as well... and the sound runs from a mixer to a headphone jack in a damn boombox... pretty ridiculous to me!

well shit ya'll want an all ages event, but there's not really any other venues. what about contacting some other venues, there's tons in tacoma. there's ways to work this out..

or, what about getting hells kitchen atleast 18+ and handbands for 21+ back home we have the blind pig and it's 18+ w/bar and they're always packed due to the 18+ they implemented. i think ya'll need to work with management and stuff and try and push it as hard as you can, or think outside the box.

also, i think advertising for the shows could be better to bring more people into freshblends, no offense to you guys putting in work out there, but everyone here has atleast 1 friend, advertise in the newspaper or the tacoma/seattle event sites

what about the local colleges / universities too, not be stereotypical but most college towns and stuff always dig the ughh and support it to the fullest, well that's for any underground music in general.

i'm kind of distracted by my daughter so i dunno if im making sense

yo communist...I know Reign and Eric have the plans to hit the colleges pretty hard, but it is summer time, no body is on campus right now. UPS has their own underground radio show, so i know they'd support. I also know they have plans to hit the city hard with advertisements with some of the upcoming shows...it's all about guerilla marketing...got to beat feet it to get people out! I know they can get an ad in the volcano if they hit up the editor. He is mad cool and always gave us full support with all we did.

as for 18+ with bracelet for bar, i don't think you can in washington any more. i think that law past a couple years ago that banned it...i'm not for sure though.

you can do all ages and bar w/id. you just have to have them separated and guarded.
hell's kitchen does this on fri and sat evenings, but it all is over by 9pm which is kinda rough for what we're all doin...

my favorite new venue in the area is in Bremerton and it's called "The Charleston."
we've played there a few times with redemption city and the outfit.
it's basically an old converted picture theater. they have the stage and an all ages area, and then behind that they have a raised area that has a sweet bar in it and you can stand up there to watch the show. it ends up being the same height as the stage, but set back a little bit.

then there's room for the all ages crowd to stand in front of that as well without blocking the 21+ view.

it's really an awesome venue, and if it were in Tacoma it would certainly dominate the music venue market.
i wish it was in Tacoma.
    or something equivalent.

check it out if you ever get the chance.

invite you guys out to a new venue here on the the south sound Washington that will support the scene with its 300+ capacity amazing/pro lights and sound, and most importantly we will be able to have 18 & over shows here with a bar 21+ with id. The venue is Maggie O tooles located at 6006 100th st Lakewood wa 98499.

i'm pretty sure lakewood said they wouldn't let them shoot cops (haha) there anymore. something about bad PR and shit but maggies is alright, the whole 18/bar with id turns some people away cause you gotta keep your drink in the bar and yadda yadda.

the charleston is fuckin rad minus the load in set up. you either go down narrow ass stairs around a stage and up or through the front door, all the way down a movie theater room set up and up. also dont try to smoke backstage, no matter how you angle it you're still in plain sight, trust me.
