.....
thats always an odd question cause i think i listen to a lot of music that doesnt influence my shit at all. i always wrote and got into talib kweli really early. he def had a bigger effect on me than anyone, nearly just as much as a person than as a emcee. the last three 3 years its been brother ali, geo, and p.o.s more than anyone, and black thought now that im with 10th & Commerce. but really its life just as much as music, the more critically and analytically i look at every thing around me, the better my writing becomes...
but seeing as 10th & Commerce is far from an established group in Tacoma, i'm not sure why i answered this first... haha
www.myspace.com/rockwellpowersbeleive it or not the first artist that inspired me to start rappin is Da Brat
http://www.myspace.com/sawchosizPete Rock!!!!!!! when i first heard the main ingredient i fucking flipped my wig! preemo was kinda the same way for me but pete is on another level by himself when it comes to the beats. tribe is also a big influence in my music too.
www.myspace.com/toddsykesmusicmasta ace, Pete rock, and common
As an emcee, KRS ONE
As a musician, Stevie Wonder
pete rock has a lot of uninspired, boring beatth
some of the shit with cl smooth is just impossibly groovy, though
it's all Run DMC and the Beastie Boys' fault. It was all downhill after i copped Tougher than Leather and License to Ill. Or maybe it was Raising Hell. Jazzy Jeff too.
dawson wtf u talkin bout? listen to soul survivor 1
Tone Loc, LL Cool J, Ice T, made me wanna be an emcee,
The way the Mack Daddy flowed on the second Kris Kross album, made me wanna do funky shit with the delivery,
Tray Deee, made me wanna be unpredictalbe with the rhymes,
Brotha Lynch made me pay close attention to detail in what i was writing,
then it came to people i was around,
Sawchosiz made me wanna have at least one or 2 punchy lines in each verse,
The people i associated with at lincoln highschool made me always want to acknoledge and pay homage to Tacoma dudes living and operating at a street level.
Fice made me keep my freestyle game sharp sharp sharp as a blade.
uummm,
DJ Kid Reign reminded me to stay free and just be wild and uncensored with my shit,
Jason Hulen provided a platform to practive all these aspects of myself as an emcee.
i'm not saying pete never made good music. i'm just saying he's put out some instrumental tapes that were snooze cues
nah...thats called classic hiphop.
unfortunately he gets the jesus pass where anything he produces is considered classic. he's in my top 10 with regards to producers but he has more sedative music than i've heard from primo, dre, just blaze, buckwild, and the few others in his class.
so u sayin he soft with tha beats?
