www.myspace.com/toddsykesmusicWell hello everyone...welcome to the community CANDI...No one ever said KRS was coming. If you check what WE have posted you will see that KRS isnt anywhere on it. This flyer was a MOCK, but even on this one, it doesn't say "KRS Performing LIVE" or in Memorex...so please, please JOSH...or anyone else...don't down talk something that is being created to be uplifting!
YES...THIS IS BEING PUT ON BY D.A.S.H. Center...and that should all the more reason to guess that KRS WOULD be in fact coming. The Center has been doing good things in the community since its inception in 2001, especially as it pertains to hip hop, our YOUTH, and THIS community. This is just one further step to allow our youth and our community to have a voice, and teach our youth that their voice is POWERFUL!
So, who's performing??? YOU ARE if you're an artist from here!!! because THAT'S who we are supporting and promoting first and foremost.
Jason, I don't know what LIFE is, but I have always been a creative, innovative, hard-worker, SHARING woman. ALL of this is a brainchild of Scooter from KUBE 93, and the Youth in our camp...nothing borrowed or stolen from anyone else. We at the D.A.S.H. Center always give credit where it is due...ALWAYS.
This event is for TACOMA'S Hip Hop Community. I hope you all will come out and support it. I hope you will look for me and come introduce yourself. Communist, I hope you get off your plane and come party with YOUR community in the park. I hope the 253hiphop.com community will complete a survey card, or talk to me, or Scooter, Vinnie the Pooh, or anyone from the D.A.S.H. Center to help us make next year's event even better. I hope...but I BELIEVE in my KIDS and MY community!!
See yall Sunday!!!
Candi - I know you've been puttin in work hard at teaching kids in Tacoma hip-hop dance, you do real good things and have been for years. But this just seems a bit odd about the program. But when something looks vaguely familiar, you called one of the people behind the LIFE program to help teach and Brenda Garcia is a Jane's Fellow from the second year and she was introduced to me and asked me some very important questions about Fab5 and the program, questions begin to get raised.
Now don't get me wrong, kids in Tacoma definately need to be educated on hip-hop and how they can better themselves with the culture, I know this and I know that you've been puttin in work to make this happen with dance. We just have to make sure that when it comes down to education of all elements, you get the right people teaching them.
If you can shed some light on your program, people might be a little more supportive...What was involved in the classes? Who helped teach for you?
www.myspace.com/hulensUpdated flier, I guess the flier above was old

is there still a dj battle? and is there a prize if so?
www.myspace.com/deejayreignDJ DASH IS THERE?
Jason...Again...I have NO idea what LIFE is. I have been teaching kids the HISTORY of hip hop in ALL the elements since we started. The form of expression MY kids use is DANCE. With that said, who determines who are "the right" people to teach it? To be real, "the Right" people to teach it would be those who BIRTHED it. But they are not here. It is up to those of US who lived it and loved, to give it to those after us.
I knew about the Fab5 organization well before Brenda was ever a Fellow. So whatever questions she asked you was for her own information or curiousity, becuase like I said previously, I ALWAYS give credit where credit is due. To add to that, I NEVER asked anyone to come on and help teach my program. If you are speaking of 2012, I told the Creator and Director of this program, SCOOTER of KUBE93, to talk to them because I liked how they presented themselves at all of the youth rallies, community events and hip hop events I'd been to across Tacoma. I thought it would be nice to invite them into what WE were doing...you know collaboration...community! They were INVITED out of love of community and power in numbers to improve such, not out of a need for ANYTHING our program was lacking. This was proved by the fact that they weren't even a part of the program!
As far as people supporting the program goes, no one on this site has taken the time to ask about THE PROGRAM, so it would be ridiculous that they WOULDN'T support, ESPECIALLY since, more than anything, it is about bettering, uplifting and empowering our youth. You know what, this is tired....
I have ALWAYS had support of my community because I do this for no other reason other than these kids!!! So if you come and supoprt great!! If you don't, your lose! My kids are dynamic! They had a great summer. They learned a lot of valuable information on hip hop and for life. They learned 12 new words to put into their vocabulary! They had a photo shoot and did media training! They learned to speak to business leaders and voice their concerns. They cut three DYNAMIC songs! They constructed this event!! It is going to be successful.

Candi - Like I said, I think it's great that you have a program that helps teach kids all elements of hip-hop. I believe that teaching is a necessity of the culture. That's how the next generation is uplifted. I'd love to hear more about your program, but you haven't shared what it's about...Can you give the site a breakdown of how the program is ran, who teaches, what goes on, etc.
www.myspace.com/hulensCandi start a thread about the Dash Center I saw a video of a new space your working on and it looks amazing. I'm definitely going to come out and support this event
Hiphop has a inner circle.so my questions never been answered.... dj battle? it said that on the first flyer...
www.myspace.com/deejayreignwas that the flyer that said "krs one"
lol at "felony entertainment" uplifting the community
Was a good time, it started off kinda slow but by the end of it when I showed up again things were going good. Was really great to see all of the smiling faces and kids taking part. The key ladies were amazing too, Candi let me know if you want some photos, as long as I'm given credit you can use them.
Hiphop has a inner circle.anyone else make it out?
Hiphop has a inner circle.I came out with Antonio Edwards, another amazing poet, and we got down. We did our thing right before the battle.
I got to see a little bit of Felony Entertainment's show...came back for a minute, saw some of the performances by the kids from the classes and a homeless guy get whooped on from behind by some punk. I also saw my neighbor selling ice cream. Lots of people smiling and having a good time.
www.myspace.com/hulensjungle fever @253hiphop ...lol
thank you EVERYONE who came out to support! We were very pleased with the turnout and all of the planned and impromptu artist that blessed the mic. Special thanks to Shyan Selah who came out and performed although the majority of the crowd had left!
Please, if you were in attendance, please give me some feedback: what was good, what wasn't so good, what you'd like to see next year.
