So this is mostly targeted for the legal writers. When you guys do these walls are you getting paid for them? Tacoma has a bunch of money that is floating around for public art and I don't see why you guys shouldn't get some moola for your work. Are you guys already tapping into this money, need more info? The deadline is expired right now but there is always next years.

Just wondering you guys do amazing work and I hope you are not paying for all of that paint out of pocket

The big thing with the arts grants is actually getting them approved. Fab5 worked hard to get the arts commission grants. we received grants from the arts commission 2 years in a row for the LIFE program and the PLU battles.

I think the artists should apply for grants on the legal walls. 2feet knows they can always tap me as a resource for that!

All the legals with the exception of a very slim few have been paid walls. They are always just permission walls - which is dope unless a person wants something specific done, then we can talk some cash.

But, getting grants to pay for supplies and then the walls could come off even more insane than they already do!

Tacoma has some heater legal walls right now.

Jason, kadjsfakds.... we need to sit down and catch up!

has anybody thought about posting on craigslist looking for building owners and businesses that are down?

you could present it as a way to alleviate vandalism.

Ya know as someone who is very familiar with this culture, and someone who is familiar with the world we live in, we are damn near forced to ask to do anything. Are you getting rid of that? Can you please let me sit here? Can I go that way? The point of graffiti is that there is no rules..can I hit that wall? Screw that, Im gonna do it wether you want me to or not. The smart business owners go out of their way to allow people to do that since the majority of others painting feel the same way....and second, unlike myself, those people put up some garbage ass hollow throw in that place. Whats it gonna be? Quality or shit? Now if you choose to point out the hypocricy of that statement by saying, "well if the point of doing graffiti is not to ask then why are you gonna try to paint a legal huh." My question to you is.. Would you turn down any oppurtunity to paint wether legal or illegal? If so I question your status as a writer. Second if it is legal it's not graffiti, the technical term would be word art. Now I dont have to try to defend my position on shit to anyone, I'm doin my thing best believe that...also feel free to respond I like to hear others position or opinions, or just talk shit...I enjoy laughing.

i was more or less playing devils advocate.

i don't really respect shitty vandalism but i appreciate the significance of chaos. it paves the way and keeps the authorities and city types freaking out. the more they have on their hands the less they can do about it. sometime it would be fun as hell to organize a "reclaim the streets" sort of movement and get 100 people to sweep across the city painting / wheat pasting and generally being a thorn in everybodies ass. everybody would wake up and would look like a bomb went off.

which brings me to opening sequence of free willy...

  3.

I love the idea proposed above. I also don't have any respect for cheap talentless vandalism, and nothing infuriates me more than when it's on someone personal property/business.
I am for art that intrigues the viewer to want more from the artist, and street art that has iconic value, in that it leaves a symbolic impression on people.

I cannot believe how quickly the city takes stuff down in donwtown tacoma. They are fast!
I would love to see some killer graffiti on some of the boarded up buidling/remodels. These places need spicing up,
even if it only last a few days!

  4.

yea murals are cool but come on now, where are the bombers at?

I'm deleting the last few posts just because this is stupid. You don't write graffiti yet you are going to talk about graff like you know it. This argument can go on for days and result in a waste of space for the site.

By your comment that means that I can't have any opinion of music since I don't make music...or books cause I dont write books...or movies cause I dont make movies....what can a person have opinions of?

And it can go on for days...that doesn't mean much! At least it gives people on the site something to talk about, instead of just lurkin around!

I'll agree jason, you've had many good points. Graffiti arguments always 'cause too much drama. We could sit here for days acting like kids going back and forth about who's right and who's a writer and why one person sucks and why the other doesn't. I just don't like to be involved in things like this especially on the internet. Next time I'll choose to word my opinions better and less degrading.

And to mike, it wasn't about what he said, it's the fact we're bickering and both have our own opinions that wont change :)

im not hating on anyone, and im not an outsider in this. ive been in tacoma for about a year and i hardly see bombers getting up, it seems like its mostly dudes who just piece... and to me, thats kinda weak.
the rulers of this shit get up in every medium. cats that piece alot should still get sum bombs up or at least tags. or illegal pieces.. all im sayin is that cats are takin it easy and just doing legal walls, whats up with that? tac's got so much industrial space, gnarly cops, but still hella spots nonetheless...

  7.

    maybe im just hungry haha
