Hey everyone. I haven't really posted here because I usually don't have anything nice to say. But this is different. I work at the South End Boys and Girls club and I know the late night coordinator really well. We started throwing around ideas of having a Hip Hop show at the club during Late Night (Friday Nights from 9-12. Its 13 and up only.) My main goal here is to try to engage the youth in the local hip hop community. They are even more out of touch with it then I am and I am a white 21 year old PLU student. I think getting some of Tacoma's best out would really open their eyes to what is out there besides the 12 song rotation on KUBE 93. I've never tried to do something like this so I don't even know where to start besides this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Btw my name is Elias. I met some of you at FreshBlends on wednesday.
Ya could just book all-ages shows. Ya could do Hip-Hop seminars, like DJ lessons, MC classes, poetry slams, B-Boy battles.
this is a really good idea i think.
people at my school think hiphop is all gangs guns money bling basically.
which pisses me off.
i played common market in my math class. and people heard hiphop and automatically assumed it was gonna be about that, and were saying STEREOTYPICAL things about hiphop
So I talked more with the Late night Coordinator a little more and She said as long as I can get the artists to commit and get all the technical details (sound and all that other stuff) worked out its a GO. She said that we could do it at one late night just as a trial run and if it goes well then we might be able to do it again maybe at another club. So my next question would be Who would be willing to perform for Free?
me.
