Seeing as how this is a forum about 253hiphop and the only people who make posts about certain artists are the artists themselves, let me change that. There's a lot of exciting artists about to put out some music in our area but one that I'm anticipating very highly is John Crown. He's being backed up by DJ Semaj who to me is one of the best out of Washington making beats. If I had to describe his style it's somewhere inbetween Jay, Kweli, and Lupe but I think he's honest enough and the production is original enough that he has his own identity. Check the cuts The Mourning and The Benchwarmer on www.myspace.com/statemoney and another track on semaj's page called All Alone @ http://www.myspace.com/djsemajofennerpiece . Let's get some talk on here about the artists in our area, not just bickering and promoting yourself.

  1.

Jon Crown does have mad spit. I know him from the slam circuit. So he's versatile and can bring many different styles. He has a certain cockiness to him that's street, but he's also a brutally honest artist who expresses his own pain in life beautifully. I've done many spoken-word gigs with John Crown before, but he always considered himself a true MC. I've known he can spit for a while. I've heard some nice songs from him before.

  2.

honestly ive found myself listening to the music on his page almost daily. his really presise delivery reminds me a lot of pharoe monch. his track "My Life" is fucking incredible, the concept and feel of the track reminds me a lot of ali's "room with a view". dude's recordings are probably my favorite to come outta tacoma. I cant wait to see dude rock a live set. anybody who hasnt listened to his music absolutely needs to

I must say that this is a truly humbleing experience. I mean, it's one thing when a fan admires your music, but when another artist admires your music it's double the reward. Mainly because you guys know what it takes to make a song, to make a beat, to find a place to record, to write that dope punchline that actually has meaning, and that perfectly timed metaphor. So it means a great deal to me that other artists are appreciating the work I put into my music, because they know what it takes. So I truly appreciate the comments guys.

I've been listening to this today while at work the beats, the lyrics, the story telling all quality for sure. A few lines that I can't get out of my head are:

"My grandfather drowned his sorrow in a bottle i pretend I wont be like him and I take another swallow"
"ok, First things first before I get into this verse I never let my bank account tell me what I'm worth"

semaj is the truth behind the beats!
