Good cause, see you all there, is this show 21+ or all ages?
Hiphop has a inner circle. So this kid bombs spots like the pythian temple that he knows will get the public looking into it.... and then spreads it all over his myspace to show off his crimes...... Gets caught because of his stupidity... and people are going to help raise funds to pay for it?
I got two cents for the cause - keep your crimes on the low down or you will go down.
*eyes roll*
i believe its all ages...
THIRDEYETHEORY LastWrites till my health plummetsicurbyou thats not the case. if he did it to himself i wouldnt have hopped on.
yes its an all ages show........
not to play the devils advocate but..........he did do it to himself when he set the ink/paint to a surface. i'm all for supporting his cause dont get me wrong but one must take full responsibility for one's own actions. and the fact that i've seen his tag more than any other around here doesnt help his case. but that's rad the viaduct is starting to do hip hop shows, maybe i'll finally check it out.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatoryeah i thought that was just a buttrock venue not that I like going to where its at
Hiphop has a inner circle.its actually a labor of love for this kid i know, its mostly hardcore and indie rock but when he was running the old version, the Hall, there was a couple hip hop shows. not sure why this event got hooked up with them but more power to it, its a good location (accessible not friendly lol) but there's always a couple dive bars around when the grown ups get bored.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatorYeah I've actually never been, ah so its not a bar too
Hiphop has a inner circle. He didn't do it to himself? Who the fuck did it to him then? He was set-up?
Nigga plz
not its not a bar, thats the whole point of it i guess. i'm sayin there's some dive bars nearby ie- the airport, club vertigo, whatever else is still running down there.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatorThe self ups all over the internet didn't help him any in this case. But he got the most from it so i'm down for support!

However it happened this is kinda bogus as there is an actual benefit for a good cause going on the same night @ Jazzbones which was planned well in advance and has actual strong community support and backing:

What is the United Way of Pierce County?
Well, the money actually goes to the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center which is a home for victims of predatory and other crimes mainly for children.
If you'd like more info go here:
www.familyjusticecenter.us
I just can't for the life of me figure out how this is a "good cause."
i leave this thread the way it started...
"dumb founded"
Nasty Left:I just can't for the life of me figure out how this is a "good cause."

stop talking shit! keep ur thoughts to yourself! and go do your own shit!
www.myspace.com/deejayreignWatch the detectives on that kid's case roll down to the "movement" show with some boys in blue and start taking down every fool at the show who has illegal shit plastered on their myspaces. Haha.
It's like those bee traps people use where you put some meat over a tray of water on a hot day and the bees eat until they are fat and they fall into the water below and drown...
bzzz!
since when was being cool with the law hip-hop? we're trying to help the kid out of a situation in which he is probably being overcharged and prosecuted. He's a friend and I got his back. Simple as that and no need to scrutinize it or complain about other benefit shows going on that night either.
Whether or not there was another benefit going on that night I would think this is a whack "cause."
And I'm not the only one here that thinks that way, so don't single me out.
Why should we support a dumbass kid who vandalized an important monument to the city plus countless other walls and items of personal/public property? Where is the artistic value in the average graff tag? How is this a worthwhile cause? How is it "hip-hop" for a delinquent kid to go about spray painting his fucking name on other people's property?
Don't get me wrong, a good piece is a good piece. But when these motherfuckers go about dropping their "tag" or basically just their fucking names on walls... that's whack. pick a useless alley wall and throw up a beautiful artistic piece and i might hold my tongue.. but that's clearly not what this kid is doing.
Why should we support this? This is what gives "hip-hop" a bad name.
You guys are clearly confused, or I'm apparently missing something.
"since when is being cool with the law hip-hop?"
what the fuck does that mean?
should i start raping and murdering to assert my hip-hop status? FUCK THE COPS MAN, YEAH! .... i roll my eyes at you, sonny.
there's a line man. i don't give a shit if this was the only show in town that night, it would still be a worthless cause. the only reason i haven't given up entirely on this so-called "community" here on this forum is because several of you on this thread agreed with me before I even posted. but good god, the rest of you seem lost.
myspace.com/nastyleftPlease explain to me how this has any sort of artistic value what-so-ever:

But don't forget to respond to my points made in the previous post.
I seriously would like an explanation from the supporters of this delinquent.
good points
Hiphop has a inner circle.I dont care whether it has artistic value or not. Im all for bombing illegally. I cannot stand legal work at all. Its for pussies who want to be labeled "graff writers" but not have to ball-up. (my opinion)
I got some good ol' pals from the day who are legal and thats cool. They are artists... They arent writers in my mind. They do they thang and thats cool by me.
HOWEVER, I think its funny dude got rolled up. So sick of kids putting their bombs and paintings on myspace and shit. You have to self-rep on the internet to get somewhere? Thats ghey... Yer gonna get caught.
Even though Im sure the kid is a cool cat. I know my friends from the day hang out with him. They repping him... So Im sure he's a cool guy. However, its nothing personal.
Im not raising money to help out someone who (whether it was due to the myspace thing or not) got themselves into some shit.
So, in conclusion icurbyou says:
Go Bomb.
Paint Illegally.
Quit putting your shit up for net fame.
Don't get caught.
Don't expect everyone to accept the "cause" when ya boy gets rolled up.
It's like any illegal activity, those who keep their fucking mouths shut don't get caught up.
This is a silly fundraiser. Next time I get caught going 105mph down i-5 i'll be expecting you cats to throw down on my ticket... Or better yet, next time I knock my girl's teeth out you can help out my DV case. Since yer in the giving mood for shit like that.
God bless.
nasty left that pic you posted of that roller they did isnt meant to be artistic..it was to get to the highest point in that area and put there names so they could be seen..you dont have any grasp on how the whole graff thing works.
this maybe a rediculous cause to most..but id do this shit for any one i know.
nasy left dont know shit about hip hop!!!! his old group had sir mixalots manager managing them! NOW THATS HIP HOP!!!!!
www.myspace.com/deejayreignThere is a HUGE difference between "Graffiti" and "art". putting up a pretty piece in an alleyway is art. putting on a black hoodie a scaling fire escapes at 3am to roll out the top floor of a building is graffiti.
I don't really think graff is even hiphop anymore. Not REAL graff anyway. Graffiti doesn't have a style and Writers don't look a certain way. You can't go to the the mall and buy yourself skills. The only way to come up is to go out and break the law over and over again until you get good.. Graff has become its own subculture over the past 30 years and it's the last true form of rebellion. Real Graffiti can't be bought or sold, it can't be exploited by Mtv or a record label or a store in the mall. You can't pay established writers to go bomb with you (well maybe you could).. in any case, graff isn't supposed to be pretty and make you say, "awww how nice". It's for fame. That's its only purpose. prime example- Enuf..I hate that guys letters but GODDAMN that guy gets up and you don't see my name all over the city. He has made his point because I know his name and half the city has seen it.
People need to seperate legal art from real Graffiti.
you can't get this dope without a prescription.REIGN:nasy left dont know shit about hip hop!!!! his old group had sir mixalots manager managing them! NOW THATS HIP HOP!!!!!
you talk out your ass without care to address any points in the process.
this is childish banter and i will no longer address you when you post such ridiculousness.
if you have a point you'd like to form a rebuttal for, i'd be all ears.
On ENUF:
Who the hell would want to be "famous" for being the shittiest writer on the west coast.. That guy needs to get beat up and go learn how to use his finger first. great, he got down the skill of evading while painting. Now if he did something worth looking at, it would be -- well, worth looking at.
I dont think anyone has a desire to be famous for being a shithead. So he has failed in that sense.
Props to his getting up, negative props to his weak weak weak weak skill.
Oh shit.. He's at it again with that sick, sick steeze.

the stupidity is just fucking awe inspiring.
look..we're just doing a friend a solid.
and you know what nastyleft??
i just want to congratulate you for being a better person than me and everyone else invovled in this illogical, illconcieved, and what did you say? oh yeah "whack cause".
i hope your benefit is a huge success and the money generated will help the crystal judson family with what ever the fuck "they're" and I mean "they're" problem is.
you fucking hypocrite.
we're doing the same thing your doing..just with better music.
the only difference?
the cause.
now go rehearse..you got a show in four days.
THIRDEYETHEORY LastWrites till my health plummetsyour post makes little sense.
in no way was i being hypocritical of the situation.
no, you are not doing the same thing i am doing.
and besides, the fact that i'm playing a show the same night isn't the issue to me at this point. i don't give a shit. we'll have plenty of people there and your fans aren't our fans. that matters not to me.
the fact that people consider this a "good cause" is what I find to be ridiculous.
a good cause is something like helping the homeless or the community in some way.
what your "friend" did is just the opposite of that. he did something stupid to disrupt and diminish the community. he vandalized a predominant piece of tacoma's history. and he got caught for it, like a dipshit. and this is the cause?
i mean, good for you doing your friend a favor to help him with whatever cash he needs.
but to label it a "benefit for hip-hop and ART" is ridiculous, as people like your friend do nothing but give hip-hop in this city a bad name. And it sure as shit isn't art. In fact, it destroys actual art.
anybody with half a mind and no bias will understand what i'm saying here.
so it doesn't bother me that you don't. i understand you're sticking up for your friend.
what the fuck ever.
Props to Nasty Left. I think you've reminded us that we are on a forum. We can't get pissed when someone disagrees with us. If we agreed all the time we would stagnate intellectually, artistically and spiritually. That's the reason forums exist. So suck your fucking thumb if you can't contribute in a constructive manner.
ICurbYou makes a good point too. Getting up is not enough. Artists like Banksy would violate a cultural icon like the Louvre if they had something important to say. Getting up is not enough. What else do you say when you get up there? Say someone scaled to the top of Union Station and wrote their tag. Sure, props for getting up there. What physical dexterity! But that would be a piece of Tacoma History destroyed for nothing more than bragging rights. But if that artist has something to say, they've got our attention haven't they? The dilemma comes with what the writer does with that attention. I think in this case we are still waiting. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If the writer does nothing with the letters on the wall graffiti has been cheapened. But there are a lot of talented artists out there.
but dude, what you say is still subjective. the social impact of some "lame" rolled on tag on the side of a building could be just as important/positive as anything. (it isnt and most likely wont be but... still its all subjective.)
nasty you're right. what the fuck ever lol. that's the ultimate passive aggressive statement.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatorbomb the suburbs.
you can't get this dope without a prescription.Yeah, I don't argue that an artist's social impact is subjective. Anyone can have their own opinion. But when we look at an artist's social impact, there is a measure of objectivity in the choices they make to express their art. Call me strange, I think an artist inherits responsibility for something more when they put their stamp on something historic.
For us Tacomans, I remember when the two lion statues in Wright Park had their noses painted. They were ruined. I doubt a graf artist even did that. It could have been a random drunkard. Who knows. What I'm afraid of is graffiti being reduced to cheap vandalism by the defacement of Tacoma monuments.
So many valid and honest opinions and arguments in here. Im truly impressed. As for Mr. Curb you know I always hate you for being right. As a writer I can be seen as biased but from a completely neutral stand point, YOU HAVE to know and prepare yourself for the consequences of your actions. Second, folks into illegal activities need to learn at some point drawing attention to yourself is RETARDED YOU FUCKING MORON...WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT, is it just me here?
no rat i made a similar sentiment before, and i think ultimately it's the bottom line. you gotta man up for the shit you've done and accept that when you live in a society you are accepting their social norms and laws, and that when you breach them there are consequences and as a grown up we have to ya know...stop bitching and own up to what we've done.
of course, that's not altogether very american, but whatever. homie fucked up and got caught up and it sucks for him and his homies and they want to help their homie. then there's other homies who're trying to help lil' homies they dont even know so, in the end, the selfless benefit without all the controversy will proally do better/gain more respect for the hip hop community. trying to pull someone's legal stuff into the scene could potentially kick it in the balls.
so the moral: don't think you're fucking invisible because when your name is in nearly every neighborhood in tacoma, you're gonna appear sooner or later.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatoralso...
no one's said what the money goes to. i think i saw something about legal costs for Risen (but i'm not reading everything again) and all the flyer says is hip hop/art benefit. so again, what does the money benefit? if its for the hip hop scene then you might as well fork it over to 253HH for working his ass off on this site and shit.
cuntmusk is your friend mcmonster the devastatorI don't need the money guys, just support local hiphop :)~
NASTY LEFT! Mabey that shit aint art, and mabey that kid is a dumbass, But it seems that dumb ass has alot of friends who would rather pool together to help him out. We should only be so lucky. So instead of hating on the shit just let the shit go. U dont agree with what the kid does ok! we get that. Nasty left isnt down with the shit. But damn man, just imagine if you were in a situation, weather it be a self made one or not. Woundt you like to have people who support you there to help you out? just leave it alone. Theres no reason to argue over this shit!

I could use some cash. let's do a Benefit for me.. we can call it the Benefit for Joeski to buy nicer shit than you. gotta pay that mortgage. :)

PERIOD.
i read through, and come to the conclusion that hiphop is becoming gayer and gayer than kanye wearing LV backpack with mr. hat on his hand and talk about how awesome he is. the InTurnEtZ is serious business.

If I was in the situation, I would prefer my friends called it the "Benefit for Jesse" show as opposed to the "Benefit for Art & Hip-Hop."
A few of you fail to see what I'm trying to say here.
This show is not beneficial for either of the two things it is stated as being a benefit for:
1.) Art. We've already determined what this kid did isn't art.
2.) Hip-Hop. What this kid did only gives hip-hop a bad name in the local community, and makes it harder for us to get shows and convince places like the Broadway Center to allow acts like E-40 to come to town.
Again, I reiterate, this show is being described as a Hip-Hop/Art Benefit. It says so on top of the god-damned flyer.
That is where my problem is. I've said countless times that I have no problem with these guys throwin' their buddy some cash. Throw a show, call it a Benefit for So-and-So. But for the rest of the public that doesn't know the guy, don't capitalize on their willingness to want to help the hip-hop and art movement in this city. Because THIS IS NOT DOING THAT.
Jesus Christ am I clear yet?
myspace.com/nastyleftmabey its inteded to be an ART HIP HOP BENNIFIT SHOW, and this just happens to be the RISEN movment cause. You see what im saying. It is what it is. Its giong to be a hip hop and art show. but its also gonna help out a friend of someone.
No. I don't see what you're saying. The flyer specifically says this:
"The Risen Movement" Hip-Hop/Art Benefit Show.
It doesn't say Hip-Hop/Art Show. It says it is a benefit show for hip-hop and art. But it isn't. It's a show to help out these guys' buddy who got caught doing something stupid that is neither artistic or beneficial to a hip-hop movement of any sort. And that "is what it is." The Risen Movement Cause and a Benefit for Art & Hip-Hop are not the same thing. You can't classify them as the same, as one detracts from the other.
Dense guy is dense.

no, that was you who determined that what he did wasn't art. some of us may feel that risen has done some sick pieces in the past along with the fact that most art is subjective. You don't know his intentions fully or what the cause of him painting or tagging anything was. already his art has sparked a bigger response on these forums then anything you've ever done. you can determine that what he did on the temple was vandalism and that's fine, it doesn't take away from the subjective fact that it could be art to some. To say that what he has done in the past isn't hip-hop either would be fraudulent. Do you know risen? Have you seen his pieces? I'm guessing no. He's one of the most talented young writers in our scene. Can't I support that and throw some money towards the cause of cultivating that? we're rallying around a friend who obviously made a mistake but who I guarantee will be over-prosecuted for what he did. Nothing wrong with that.
