i did come off super bothered about this, and i really dont know why or have an excuse. but i am inclined to rewrite my post- i think this is an inaccurate portrayal of our scene 2009. there is a lot of good tacoma music not be recognized.
Wow those are some highly unusual results considering some of the things that went down in 09.
How is DJ EatsPeople (Hannibal, I heard that last weekend and think it should officially be his name) not at least nominated for DJ of the year?
wow, the only thing i agree with on this whole list is jay barz for hustler of the year. props to jay! other than that i wont mention any names haha.
it says in that same article that you can nominate anyone for any category and they'll be added to the list. don't blame Luvva J if your name isn't nominated.. I'm pretty sure if it isn't.. it's cuz he's not hip to you.. besides, really though.. who cares?
I got nominated for 2 awards this year and am appreciative of it.. but even if I wasn't.. it's not that big of a fucking deal.. you're sounding like Kanye West right now homie..
if you gotta whine and bitch and moan about your own work not being honored.. then obviously it's not that good. Is Grynch mad cuz he wasn't the first white rapper to make the cover of Seattle Weekly? does Macklemore throw a fit when he doesn't get to be a headliner at Bumbershoot? Be humble bro.. a lot more things will come your way when you do.
JAY BARZ:you're sounding like Kanye West right now homie..
i think thats a stretch. im not really upset about, just would have liked to see a more accurate snapshot of whats going out here.
haha. seriously who cares, youre right jay. top to bottom though a lot that list is just off and it really doesn't make sense to have the volcano publish that.
Ha! The only thing funnier than that list is someone sounding butt-hurt about it.

LOL
Yo, do you guys not read the Volcano? Don't even be bummed, man. The Volcano is a joke.
Don't seek recognition for your work...only seek to make your work better....
plus, next time, skip the volcano and nominate yourself and your work for a Grammy. The Volcano holds nothing on that!
Shit, I'm from Olympia and I think that the list is 95% wrong... It should def just be called the 360 awards... Afrok, MC of the year?? seriously?? XP is a legit nomination, although he hasn't put out anything new in awhile, but dude is a beast.... Eddie is a good nomination for man of the year, Barz is obviously "hustla" of the year, and I agree with Jonathon Stewart being athlete of the year... pretty much everything else I disagree w/...
BTW... who the hell is J-Mar and Savage Family????? Am I missing something??
SMH...
JAY BARZ:really though.. who cares?
I could care less.. I'm not an MC... I just found it funny/interesting.
That's kooh...
I can appreciate the criticism and feedback... I can only respect it fully though if cats who have problems with the list, ACTUALLY NOMINATE the cats that they feel are worthy for recognition and hard work. The Awards are NOT a symbol of supremacy or even disrespect of any artist who may not be listed, but they are meant to establish a segment of the music/entertainment/lifestyle scenery shared between Tac, Oly, Spanaway, Bremerton... The areas that surround our area. So... PUT YOUR PEOPLE ON... Don't complain about Afrok, because he doesn't have an album... plenty of whack cats have released albums - that doesn't mean they earned the title of MC - also, if you call yourself a REAL MC... Challenge the MC. The people obviously dig his stage show... He can move the crowd and the people acknowledge him. Savage Family are Indigenous artists who have earned a respectable name around all of the reservations in the Western United States... If you don't know them that doesn't mean they aren't dope - someone clearly thinks that they are... In fact, I appreciate the list and would have liked to see more nominees from The Tac and Tha O... Lebowski, John Crown, Ocean Records for Record Store and there were some DJs mentioned in this thread who are NOT nominees... Get off that old-style of complaining and let people know who cats are by nominating them. The Awards are meant to highlight efforts of people who take the game/business and our scenery seriously...
As small as an area we live in, this region (Tacoma/Olympia) STILL fails to support itself and its key players... I mentioned a long list of unappreciated legends from The 25360 and if you do not know Nasty Nes, KFOX, Wojack, Criminal Nation, High Performance, Real Deal Posse, K-Swiss (RIP), Mr. D.O.G., Penny Lane Records, K Records, Black Anger, Slo Poke, 4 Real, The TA Crew and others - you are doing a true disservice to our area's Hip-Hop scene, mayn. At least for those who CLAIM to want to see the scene improve. Peace... See you at the awards.
J!
i go to school with a dude from High Performance!
Haha! That's DOPE! What is he/are they up to? They were FACTORS out here... It would be good to get in touch... Can you ask him if they are willing to sit down for an interview? Thanks, mayn.
J!
Just kinda goes to show how disconnected the "scene" is. Big ups to those who were nominated.
At my radio station (live365.com/gojuiceradio)**shameless plug**, we're starting an annual Northwest Urban Music awards any ideas on how we can make that something worthwhile for cats from washington to oregon hit me up.
Q Dot
Tre'dmarks Music Group
Juice Radio
Well said luvva j! ;)
I like the idea of the Northwest Urban Music Awards... It would be good to connect with Octavius and Cool Nutz down in Portland, because they have an annual event that they both support that is similar, although it includes California as well. I have connected with a lot of non-commercial radio DJs/stations in BC, Washington and Portland to put together a radio/media network to provide an organized outlet for cats who actually want to be played on the radio and provide clean edits of their albums/singles. This would also be a good idea to link with this Northwest Radio & Media Network... If cats are NOT editing their music, they are trippin' AND slippin', because we should be aiming for as many outlets for airplay as possible, including the online stations, where cussing is allowed, but not on FM/AM wavelenghts. Also, The 25360 Awards is meant to highlight The South Puget Sound and surrounding 253 and 360 areas... Just like the Bay Area Rap Scene Awards is strictly Bay, but also reaches out to Sac-Town, Fresno, Stockton and other Northern California cities... Regional. Hit, Cool and Octavius in Portland... They have a good industry awards program catering to the NW. And YES... The scene is 'disconnected'... Some of us are working on glueing it a bit better... Can't rely on anyone else to do it... Seattle is a good example of a growing, nurturing and newly supportive Hip-Hop scene... They are beginning to really give it up for eachother in The 206... Wasn't always that way. Peace...
J!
no doubt! good looking on the guidance/direction. The awards probably wont take place for about a year, we definitely want to get Juice Radio visible in the markets outside seattle/tacoma before we go off making truly northwest awards but do be on the look for it soon because as we get things rolling we'll announce how to submit, venue etc.
i couldn't agree more on the Seattle scene...I still hold the thought that for it to truly work out in the regions favor the entire region is gonna have to connect. It should almost be like a fraternity or brotherhood (for lack of better words) of NW cats from BC to Portland to Boise where we can all kinda come together and smash as an entire unit as opposed to several segments within seperate cities. I'm wit you tho J! Lets gon' n get that gorilla glue out and make it happen.
I don't see why anyone is even concerned

not sure if thats the right myspace, too many of em..
who cares, and 2nd, who cares, and 3rd, there are hella mcs that prolly do deserve to be on that list, but honestly, rockwell you are not one. no hate, i do hella shows, and ive seen you perform once. at the show i did. that was the first and last time i heard of you. i dont think i deserve a nomination cuz i havent put anything out in a while. (But i have hella shit now and 2010 is gonna be wiiild!)afrok def deserves to be up there, cuz hes been workin hella, hes good, and if he didnt make the list, he wouldnt have never have posted what you did. soygnh bein humble opens doors!!!!
i never said what list i deserved to be on, i dont think im the best rapper in tacoma or where ever else, i just brought up my album, which i think is a fairly solid project. my original post was more about semaj and evergreen and other tacoma artists in general.
i most certainly wasnt calling into question afrok, who i've seen on multiple occassions and is without question a dope emcee. and everyone who talks music with me knows xp is one of my favorite emcees in general, so i dont want cats to think im out here taking pot shots at other artists, that wasnt my intention at all. i support and legitimitly listen to lots of 253/360 artists... i think the people in my circle would vouche for my not being as arrogant and self involved as i may have off across as on this thread.
Yo Rock... I need that album, mayn... I hope you can come to Hip-Hop 4 The Homeless tomorrow... If you can bring some CDs... You can sell some at the merch table, mayn.
J!
ill definitly come thru tomorrow man! i gotta say i feel like an idiot for even starting this thread, dont know what the fuck i was thinking. but yea ill definitly come introduce myself tomorrow and enjoy the event
I hope that HipHop for the homeless goes well for u guyz! Dont forget to come out to tacoma later that night for DjSemajs EP release party!
