great thread... I'll have to start with Pho Bac on hilltop....
But Pho Tai in lakewood is open till 4am.. so that has to count for something.
Vien Dong on 38th always serves me right. Just got back from there tonight.
Pho bac is great!
I remember hittin up Vien Dong after my senior year half days, classic joint.
Pho Tai in lakewood even tho they r open till 4am, they have some major customer service and health code issues.
I personally prefer Than Brothers off S.Tac Wy
There is always a debate about which one is the best with the pho spot on the hill and Vien Dong. I have yet to eat at the Hill Top spot, but Vien Dong is definitely my favorite in the city.
Blak Mic is right about Pho Tai, but I can't front, I've had some fun after hours nights at that spot.
Pho Woa is across the street from Pho Tai and also open until 4 AM, but I'm not a fan of that spot. The same goes for the 38th pho spot by the mall and the pho spot on 100th st. in Lakewood. Not that great.
Than Brothers are one of my favorites, especially if you are starving because they have the XL size.
There is also a spot on South Tacoma Way in between 68th & 66th called Huong Viet that I've been to a few times that I thought was really good. I just always forget about that place when I'm craving pho. Fuck it, I'm going there today.
isnt it funny that whenever you hear someone say pho or read about it, the "i want pho" thought jumps into your head. never been in pho tai, keep on hearing how its the fasst food of pho (which i guess is dumb seeing how its never taken more than a few minutes to get my pho). pho woa is amazing, usually go there because my friends and i jet out around 1 usually lol. i havent even heard of those other places so ill def have to check them out.
on another note, what do you guys usually get? i usually go for the brisket or chicken. cant go wrong with those two
btw, anyone have cross streets for the vien dongs or the hill top spot?
If you think Pho Woa is amazing then you are about to be in love with the other spots.
Vien Dong's cross street is Yakima I think, it's by Lincoln. It's right in the heart of Vietnamese town, so you know it's the truth.
Man i only had PHO once i went to Pho Bak on the hill and it was bomb....i know my cousin always went to Vien Dong on his lunch when he went to lincoln I heard that spot is tight
vien dong
for some reason this thread did the trick in lifting me out o the 4 cop funk
yeah, i want vien dong tonight.
253hiphop meetup at vien dong tonight? Anyone?
i wont be home till 10:30 so probably not tonight
im going in about 2 hours
ok maybe lets plan an official meetup soon, that would be fun
253hiphop:ok maybe lets plan an official meetup soon, that would be fun
yea i wouldnt mind meeting a few more of you guys
i remember the first time i got pho. wasnt really satisfied, kinda thought it was just a step above top ramen. a few weeks later i just got a craving and havent stopped since then lol.
You have to know how to make your broth right for it to be really good. Everybody does it different though.
Pho Cyclo in Seattle is really good too.
I'm about to get some pho right now.
true, took awhile to get it down. though it didnt help my homie poured fish sauce into the mix. def not my thing
Ran into Logics and Fice tonight at Viet Dong... It was my first time having pho there... I'd have to say its the best pho I've had in Tacoma so far haha.
Yeah I've gone there w/ Fice and it's def the best I've had in the Tac... and Pho Cyclo is the best I've had in Seattle.
going to viet dong tomorrow to see what the hype is about. pho who is around 7 bucks. viet dong the same?
i got a large chicken pho for $6.25 and they give you hella...
bomb, cheeper then pho who. cant go wrong with viet dong it seems!
Than Brothers has the only vegetarian broth if that matters to anyone.
yea when ever my girl wants to have pho we go there
edit: because of the vegetarian broth
Josh Rizeberg:Than Brothers has the only vegetarian broth if that matters to anyone.
than brothers is the bomb! whenever i am up off aurora i hit that spot.
Check the pho spot on 108th across from jack in the box near parkland on pacific or the one on 38th and pacific... HITTS
im going to get pho' right now
i know you all have been waiting for this lol, but i finally went to viet dong! man, how to begin. I know that thiswill probably make zero sense but im going to say it anyway. The pho at viet dong was the same as pho woa but at the same time it was 10 times better. def my favorite spot now though. only problem i had was i asked for nooooooooooooooo onions and they put them in anyways lol.
I really don't get the fascination everyone has for VienDong, I've never really liked that place. I usually only go to the Pho Bac on the hill. I don't find myself liking any other places, some pho spots are just ok at best with the exception of Pho Cycle in Seattle.
i went there on saturday night, ordered the chicken and they gave me meatball and brisket. i said fuck it, i will take it anyways.
lol yea i dont think the waitress was paying very much attention when i went
they were on point with the water refills though, hard to find at most pho places
Remember when Than Bros. used to give ya those cream-puffs?
I love how Vien Dong always has the tea ready to go too.
Damn, Than Brothers doesn't give you the cream puffs anymore?
i got cream puffs at the one up on aurora couple weeks ago.
than bros on south tacoma way!
one of the only spots around with legit vegan pho. tofu mushroom is the way to go! and they are open til 11 i think? couple blocks out passed the swap meet on south tacoma way
I've been to the Than bros on the ave by UW and they gave me a cream puff LOL... the tac one doesn't tho? thats a shame....

it is difficult to find vegan pho that is legit
for people that care what they put into their bodies or where it comes from yes it is in fact difficult. many thai and pho restaurants contend that they are serving vegetarian dishes when in fact they are serving dishes that don't have a meat course in them but are full of beef broth and fish sauce.
